Tyre dimensions are measured on homologated CIK-FMK rims. Tyre dimensions vary with a different air pressure.
When fitting a tyre be careful not to damage a tyre bead (the bead may not be deformed).
Rotation of a fitted tyre and the ROTATION designation should be of the same direction.
After the tyre is fitted, inflate it to the pressure of 3.0 to 3.5 bar in order to assure a proper rim seat. Keep the tyre under such pressure for a few minutes to ensure a proper tyre shape.
Decrease tyre pressure to the recommended value.
RECOMMENDED INFLATION PRESSURE
Rental tyres:
Front: 1.7 – 2.2 bar
Rear: 1.8 – 2.3 bar
Racing tyres:
- Rims without fitting screws:
Front: 0.7 – 1.1 bar
Rear: 0.75 – 1.2 bar
- Rims with fitting screws:
Front: 0.5 – 1.1 bar
Rear: 0.55 – 1.2 bar
TYRE CONSTRUCTION
KART tyres have following parts:
Tread surface
is the upper part of the tyre, which is in contact to the road. The rubber compound provide grip on the road. The task of tread pattern at wet racing tyre is also water drainage. Grip depends of a rubber compound. In principle provides softer rubber compound better grip and shorter life time and inversely, harder compound provides less grip and longer life time of a tyre.
Sidewall
wears all the data such as tyre name, manufacturer, country of origin, direction of rotation, type of rubber compound and others. At riding the sidewall carry sideforces and play very important rule at chocking the oscillation and prevent tyre deformation.
Carcass
is the supporting part of the tyre and provides tyre shape at every forces, that occur during the riding. It is made of two layers of cord. Material for cord can be rayon, nylon or polyester.
Bead
provides the strong connection to the rim to provide tyre not to roll over the rim. It is made of wire bead, bead filler and layers of cord that go round the wire bead. This way tyre get the necessary stiffness in bead area to overcome all accelerating, braking and centrifugal forces and transferred them to the chassis. Beads also provides sealing against loss of air pressure in case of TUBELESS mounting.
