Floating containment booms prevent or limit the spreading of floating debris and water-born pollutants such as oil, solid waste, algae, sea- weed, etc.  They protect harbors, refineries, oil terminals, tourist beaches, and biologically sensitive areas. They can be used to re-direct floating debris and spills from strong current areas to areas where these materials can be more easily  recovered.
